Italy paradise for skiers snow-board, ski, snow: holidays in dream mountains!

An itinerary to discover Valtournenche and of one of the most beautiful mountains in Europe, dominated by a spectacular unique nature. From Cervino starts a district that ties Breuil-Cervinia to the Swiss village Zermatt with 300 kilometers of slopes for any taste.

The Cervino Mount overhangs the Breuil valley with its 4478 meters and it keeps enchanting famous and less famous tourists. Among the first we may cite Onassis, Arturo Toscanini, Von Karajan, the Queen of the Netherlands, Albert Einstein, Marylin Monroe, Gina Lollobrigida and the Aga Khan. Among the second those thousands of skiers that decide to spend their holidays in a district offering 300 kilometers of ski slopes which are among the best in the world.

Cervino raises in the North-Western corner of the Alps, at the one end of Valtournenche valley (also said Cervino valley), it belongs to Valle d'Aosta and is settled on the whole basin of the Marmore torrent. The difference in level between the higher point (the peak of Cervino at about 4500 meters) and the lower point (the valley bottom on the border line with Montjovet, (about 400 meters) is over 4.000 meters and it is overcome in about 26 kilometers. This gives an idea of the variety of landscapes of this area which includes the mountains groups of Monte Rosa, Cervino, Grandes Murailles, Petites Murailles and the peaks of Balanselmo and Tsan.

Today Cervinia is a veritable paradise for skiers: here they can access extremely modern lifts going up to 3.500 meters and always perfectly snowed and beaten slopes. Here it is possible to go skiing from October to May and in the Summer you may ski on the glacier in bathing costume. Now, with a unique skipass, you may go through the whole "domain skiable" a 300 kilometers district formed by Cervinia and Zermatt (CH): easier slopes on the Breuil-Cervinia side, more difficult on the Zermatt one.

The most popular slope of Cervinia is the mythical Ventina slope: 11 kilometers long, with "S" scary curves, a series of "schuss" and walls giving no rest. It starts at 3500 meters and ends in the village with a difference in levels of 1500 meters. You may get there taking the bigger European cable car (140 places) in Cime Bianche Laghi. In Cervinia you can as well go skiing in the night on lightened slopes, practice snow-board among the pines of Cieloalto and Lago Blu, an ideal place to plunge in the snow and surf! Last but not least, you may chose eli-ski: thanks to the helicopter you can ski off the track down the glaciers of Monte Rosa or along the sides of Chateau des Dames and Grandes Mureilles.

But Cervinia is not only ski and snow: in the Summer you may go for various walkings and excursions. One of the nicer (and not very difficult) is the one along the large and sunny Cheneil valley: from there you may enjoy a marvellous view on Valtournenche and on Cervino in an extremely evocative natural environment.

Close to the tunnel in Busserailles there is a chapel dedicated to the Madonna della Guardia that dominates the precipice and its famous "giants' marmits" first explored by the brothers Maquignaz and by J. Carrel in 1865.
